The science of Global Warming The primary driver of global Warming is the enhanced greenhouse effect, which occurs when certain gases in the Earth's atmosphere trap heat from the sun. Greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide,methane and nitrous oxide, naturally occur in the atmosphere, helping to maintain temperatures that are conducive to life on Earth.
